    Warning on pickpockets; CRIMEB

SHOPPERS in Nuneaton and Bedworth are being warned that a mini-crimewave of pick-pockets and purse thefts could be emerging.                                                                      Three thefts in Nuneaton town centre on Saturday have alerted police to the possibility of an outbreak of handbag "dippers".                              In one incident, a purse was stolen from a handbag hanging from an elderly man's wheelchair, which was being pushed by his wife. It contained pounds 200.                              Det Con Liz Rogers, of Nuneaton police, said: "These are the first ones we've had in a while, and it could be that people are coming back into the area after trying their luck elsewhere.                                           "Usually when you get one incident, you get more afterwards. It seems this could LV Earrings be the work of one person, but previously we've had two or three people operating together.                              "Women should make sure their purses are kept well into their handbags, not resting near the top.                              "If possible, they should carry them where they can't be seen, preferably in their jackets or other clothing.                              "We would also advise elderly people not to carry large amounts of cash around with them. If they have to go to the bank, they should take somebody with them."                              The three thefts Postcard Printing on Saturday took place over the course of just one hour.                              The first happened between 1.30pm and 1.40pm in Poundstretcher in Regent Street, when a small black purse was stolen from a woman's shopping bag.                              In the British Heart Foundation shop in Abbey Street, a woman was bumped in the back at 2pm, and later found her purse had been stolen.                              A woman of eastern European appearance, with brown or
embroidered patches red hair tied back in a bun and wearing a lime green T-shirt and dark trousers, is thought to be involved in the theft.                              And at Bon Marche in Queens Road, an elderly woman's purse was stolen from a bag hanging off the back of her husband's wheelchair at 2.30pm.                              Anyone with information on the thefts should phone the confidential Crimestoppers hotline on Freephone 0800 555 111.
