Games target for Garcia as app

hockey                                                                       Russell Garcia, the triple Olympian, has been formally appointed head coach to the Scotland men's squad, with the task of taking the side through to the 2014 Commonwealth Games  in Glasgow, writes Craig Madden.                               The former England internationalist was originally appointed coach to the under-21 side but, following the resignation of Mathias Ahrens last September, he was promtply asked  to lead the Scotland senior squad on  an interim basis to the World Cup qualifier in New Zealand.                               He achieved considerable success down under by taking the Scots to an unexpected bronze medal courtesy of a surprise victory over China, 16 places above Scotland at No.10 in the rankings, in a penalty shoot-out.                                            "We've grown a tight bond among the coaching staff, players and Scottish replica clothing Hockey, and we value an open and honest team environment." said the 40-year-old Englishman. "It's a really good group of lads and we're going to continue to encourage self belief and a willingness to give 100%. We're going to make the most of the resources available to ensure the players enjoy their hockey at international level."                               Chris Nelson, the Scotland captain, was just as enthusiastic. "He's a real hands-on coach, he always gets on the pitch and shows us things first hand.  He has brought a good stability to the squad and instilled a real team spirit. If you're not training hard, he notices, and pulls you aside to offer motivation to help you get back on track. He tries to solve problems early, so we've all got a lot of time and respect for Russell."                               A feature of Garcia's lead has been his willingness to give younger players like Kenny Bain, Wei Adams, John Harris, Chris Grassick and Gavin Byers the chance to play at the top level.                               cycling                                       Evan Oliphant was the leading  Scottish finisher for Endura Racing Team after the Tour of the Mediterranean ended in chaos, writes Colin Renton. Stage four of  the five-day race was cancelled because of ice and snow, and the final day's racing to a mountain top finish above Toulon ended with a small  group breaking away and crossing  the line around 20 minutes clear  of the main field.                               Oliphant was in the bunch but by  the time his colleagues Gary Hand, Ross Creber, Rob Partridge and Alexandre Blain arrived at the finish, race officials were conducting the presentation to overall winner the Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d'Epargne), the current Tour of Spain champion and they were list as non finishers.                               Oliphant was credited with 71st place overall, just behind his team-mate Ian Wilkinson. The team will be hoping for improved conditions when they line up for their next race this weekend.                               replica breitling golf                               Scott Jamieson, last year's PGA EuroPro Tour No.1, may be a keen Rangers supporter but the Glasgow player is grateful to the former Celtic director Willie Haughey for keeping his blossoming pro career on track, writes Nick Rodger.                               The 26-year-old Cathkin Braes member, who turned professional in 2006, begins his European Challenge Tour campaign in Colombia this week feeling confident that he can continue his rise through the paid ranks and achieve the ultimate goal of a place on the main European stage.                               Jamieson, the former Scottish boys' strokeplay champion, won twice on  the EuroPro Tour last year on his way  to claiming the third-level circuit's order of merit but insists he may not have been able to achieve such successes withou
